The offence of homosexuality

Add caption

Maybe some of you have asked why do we see Uganda in the news lately. Please watch video and you will understand. While I am acknowledging the fact that some US churches and religious groups sometimes help the African poor,  the way the Christian Evangelical Movement’s is  infiltrating  religion in legal systems and constitutions outside of their country is outrageous. The truth is that these religious extremists have lost at home - where more and more states are approving gay-marriage and equal rights for all individuals, regardless of whom they choose to love - and they are aiming to create a conservative heaven in Africa. The white man’s burden. Sounds like colonialism? You bet.

Supportive of the bill, these Christians are having both bottom-up and top-down approaches in a country that is already homophobic with having at the center the ‘traditional” family, by linking homosexuals with AIDS, sodomy, perversity, promiscuity, child corruption, pedophilia, incest, Nazism (!!!) and so forth.

From the draft of the Uganda “Kill the Gays” Bill:
2. The offence of homosexuality.
(1) A person commits the offence of homosexuality if-
(a) he penetrates the anus or mouth of another person of the same sex with his penis or any other sexual contraption;
(b) he or she uses any object or sexual contraption to penetrate or stimulate sexual organ of a person of the same sex;
(c) he or she touches another person with the intention of committing the act of homosexuality.
(2) A person who commits an offence under this section shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for life.

This bill is linked to Scott Lively, among other American religious figures,  who offered his Christian shoulder to turn the proposal into law.  Scott Lively is the (well known) president of Abiding Truth Ministries, a conservative Christian group in California. He is also the co-author of  Pink Swastika, which bluntly writes that “homosexuals are the true inventors of Nazism and the guiding force behind many Nazi atrocities.” He is also a hypocrite.

In his “Support Uganda’s revised anti-‘gay’ bill” article published by a right-conservative online newspaper, he stated that: “The fact is, Ugandan law…tends to be very harsh in the letter, but very lenient in the application. I doubt very much that anyone arrested under the new law (if it passes) will receive anything close to the jail terms allowed for in the bill.” Meaning: I am supporting this law that is outrageous because it will not be applied. With one hand he praises Uganda for his pioneering legal moves on gays, on the other hand, he is  bragging about how the law in Uganda is useless. If it is useless, why promoting it? But, more importantly, what if it is applied by the letter?! (homosexuals are threatened in the streets and beaten, humiliated, and sexually abused in police arrest and prisons and as we speak…)
The next paragraph shows that his reason is questionable: “…there is one easy, guaranteed method of protecting oneself from ever being subject to the anti-homosexuality law in Uganda: Don’t commit sodomy!” (Please read back the text and see what is described as being the offense of homosexuality. Sodomy is not found in the text… What he is trying to do is to link homosexuality with sodomy, though they have, obviously, nothing in common.) He concludes that he is supporting the bill since there is no alternative to infiltrated foreign homosexuality in Ugandan culture. Yes, the westerners brought in the queer disease…He seems to conveniently forget that homosexuality is already criminalized through Uganda’s existing penal cod. Clearly, this is not enough for Scott Lively… If passed, the new law will bring bigger punishment for the ‘offenders’. Also, it will incriminate people that fail to report relevant homosexual offenses, creating a society grounded on fear of expression, on one hand, and bully-based, on the other, by obliging parents, medical workers, HR activist, etc to inform authorities whenever they suspect un-Christian-like behavior (it reminds me of the communist spies that voluntarily reported on their neighbors and own relatives out of fear or for some little personal gains.)
How come UN, which for better or worse is promoting fundamental human rights, is seen as a colonizer, but these white US Christian groups are perceived as God’s helping hand is beyond me. When Scott Lively was dragged to court by Ugandan gay rights activists for promoting virulent homophobia in their country, he said the action is an infringement to freedom of speech (that is, freedom to publicly advocate for homophobic action.) It is comical how he can even pronounce the word “freedom.”
